Not just lights and cameras.
Joel Vanner is a senior Media Studies major, International Business minor, at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. Joel grew up in Groton, Connecticut, the Submarine Capital of the World.
Joel has experience in both student media and professional media production.
Following graduation, Joel hopes to find a job opportunity that allows him to assist in the production of some form of digital media and later go on to earn his masters in teaching and return to the classroom.
Joel's career interest is media production for educational institutions and large companies. Since May 2016, Joel has held a student production assistant position in the Office of Integrated Marketing Communications at Quinnipiac University.
In this role, Joel has helped in the production of numerous University videos, ranging from commercials to student profile videos to sports documentaries. Additionally, Joel has hosted over fifteen episodes of Quinnipiac Live!, a Facebook Live show where prospective students to Quinnipiac can comment their questions and have them answered live by a panel of students that joins the show.
Joel received a bronze Telly award for "Behind the Bobcats: Episode 1," the Quinnipiac University Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year award and the 2017-2018 NEASEA Student Employee of the Year award for the State of Connecticut.
Joel serves as the Vice President of Q30 Television, the student-run television station of Quinnipiac University. Q30 Television is one of the factors which helped to influence Joel's college decision, so being able to hold a leadership position in the organization is one of Joel's favorite things to talk about.
As vice president, Joel oversees the station's content, paying close attention to quality, accuracy and willingness to remain creative in presenting our content. To assist with this, Joel manages and consults, on a weekly basis, with a board of five directors: news, sports, entertainment, marketing and web.
